Ready to get your teacher the one gift they actually want? If you need suggestions on the best gift to give a teacher, then this free teacher appreciation gift card printable is for you!

How do I know gift cards are the best gift ever? Because I’m a former teacher and it’s the gift I, along with my teacher friends love getting. Best part is, it takes less than 10 minutes to “make,” and doesn’t involve a hot glue gun, a dollar store run, or hours of baking 🙌!

Teachers appreciate any gift! Big, small, handmade, homemade, or store bought. Any gift is a gesture of appreciation, and it’s thoughtful, kind, and encouraging. But there are a lot of gifts that teachers get so often that they have a hard time figuring out what to do with them.

Some of those gifts include:

  • Mugs
  • Candles
  • Homemade food or baked goods
  • Body & Bath products
  • Apple knickknacks
  • Generic candy
  • Fruitcake (yes, fruitcake)

Dos and don’ts of teacher gifting

When you’re picking out a gift for a teacher, there are some things you want to keep in mind. Here’s some advice from a teacher’s whose been around the block (me!).

  • Keep your budget between $5-$25
  • Personalize your gift
  • Ask your teacher about their favorites
  • Remember to give a gift to the co-teacher too (if your child has one)
  • Spend over $50 (and never gift cash)
  • Gift personal items
  • Give classroom supplies or home décor
  • Forget about other staff that work 1:1 with your child (if applicable)

The teacher appreciation gift that teachers really want

Teachers love gift cards! Gift cards give them the freedom to practice some self-care and treat themselves to coffee, sweets, or a few new ultra fine point flair pens.

It also allows them to spend money on classroom supplies that they might need without having to get administrative approval, or use their own hard-earned money.

I know some say that giving a gift card may be impersonal, but I disagree. Since I’ve been on both sides, a parent and teacher, I can honestly say that a gift card is a great teacher gift. It gives teachers the freedom to treat themselves and purchase whatever they want whenever they want.
