School supplies Q-tip printable

Dot painting activity of school supplies

Today I’m excited to share a free back to school Q-tip painting activity. I recently shared this school owl Q-tip painting freebie and today I’m adding a school supplies Q-tip art activity. It’s back to school season after all. After shopping for my daughter’s back to school supplies, I was inspired to create a cool Q-tip painting activity.

I love dot Q-tip painting activities because my kids love to do them! I get a kick out of watching their creativity and appreciation for art develop.

These types of printables are also great activities for home, school, daycare, back to school parties, and more!

Dot Q-tip painting fun

Dot Q-tip painting is a great art activity for kids and it’s easy to set up for parents and teachers. Win-win.

Q-tip painting is a fun way for kids to practice their fine motor skills and their creativity. Although not a new idea, Q-tip painting is great because you can learn about so many things using this technique.

For example, you can learn the alphabet with correct letter formation, use it to create refrigerator art, or to learn about animals, shapes, and numbers.

And, it’s super simple to do. Simply dip a Q-tip into some washable paint, and then dot (or stamp) the each circle in the image provided.

This school supplies printable is designed to be printed on standard 8.5 x 11″ cardstock paper. I recommend cardstock because it’s thicker than printer paper and the paint will not seep through to the other side.

You’ll need very few supplies to prepare for this activity.

Recommended supplies are Q-tips (I find that on-brand Q-tips work better), washable paints, this printable, and some baby wipes or paper towels for easy cleanup.

This printable features images of adorable school supplies. School supplies used are:

  • a pair of scissors
  • a ruler
  • a pencil
  • a marker
School supplies with traceable labels

This is a great activity to get your kid learning some school supply vocabulary. As a bonus, each image is labeled in a dotted font so that your kid also gets writing practice by tracing each word.

It’s important to demonstrate how to Q-tip paint for your child if it’s their first time. Paint a few of the dots and then pass the Q-tip over and watch their creativity begin.

Once all of the dots have been stamped you’re done. Let the printable dry for a while, and then hang it on the refrigerator for everyone to see what a great job your kid’s done.
