For instance, did you know that mushrooms are made up of mostly water?

Surprising, right?

Later on I’ll share more fun facts about mushrooms that you can share with your child. But first I want to talk about why educational coloring activities are great activities for kids.

Benefits of coloring for kids

It’s important for kids to have creative outlets. And coloring can be one of the best creative outlets to offer them! Coloring helps to develop creativity, fine motor skills, and concentration. Here’s how:

  • Coloring, especially for children, is a way to develop their creativity and imagination. And it’s also a great way to introduce them to different colors.
  • Coloring is a great way to develop fine motor skills in young kids by helping to develop an efficient grip when using writing and coloring supplies. It also helps with hand-eye coordination.
  • Coloring is a great activity for children, and it’s not just because it’s fun. As kids grow, coloring can help them develop their concentration skills. Coloring is a great way to teach children the importance of staying focused on one task at a time.

We already touched on how coloring can help develop creativity in children and also improve their fine motor skills and attention span. But when coloring is combined with educational concepts like letters and numbers, it’s a great way to have children build a positive relationship with reading and math.

For example, these free mushroom color by code worksheets feature the numbers 1-6. By adding the color by code component to this activity, your child will increase their number recognition skills for the numbers 1-6.

These mushroom color by number worksheets were created to help your child (and mine) identify the numbers 1-6 and increase their number recognition and visual discrimination skills.

There are two color by number activities included. Both activities feature an image of a cute mushroom with a color code that features six different colors. Colors used are green, blue (light blue and dark blue), brown, red, yellow, orange, and purple.

Both worksheets come as a PDF download and are made to be printed on standard 8.5 x 11″ printer paper. As no-prep worksheets, the only extra thing you need on hand are coloring materials.

We love to use these Crayola Pip Squeaks Markers Set because it comes with 65 different colors and they’re mini markers, which makes it easier for my kids to hold and color with. I also like the case it comes with because it helps keep the markers organized. Oh, and most importantly they’re washable! Which is great for when your little angel decides to add “decorative” touches to their clothes 🙃.
