Teaching your child the letters of the alphabet

Truthfully, there are so many ways to teach your child the letters of the alphabet!

The key is repetition and practice! Singing the alphabet song, using alphabet magnets, and playing letter matching games are some of the best ways to get started!

And to make repetition and practice exciting you want to provide a variety of activities for your child to do. However, if your child finds a specific activity fun, feel free to use it over and over again!

A great song to use is Jack Hartmann’s Animal Alphabet Rock. It’s a fun and silly video that has Jack and his friends dressed up as different animals.

Your child will be exposed to a variety of animals (there’s a different animal for every letter of the alphabet) and letter sounds as well.

And guess what animal letter F is in the video? Fish 🐟! Our letter F worksheets are a great follow-up to this video. The image we use on two of our letter F worksheets is a fish.

Alphabet sorting activities are great as well! You can use magnets or alphabet sorting printables to review the letters with your little one. Here’s a free alphabet sorting printable for you to try!

Using alphabet magnets is another great idea. This alphabet magnet set is great because the consonants and vowels are different colors. This helps early learners to identify and differentiate between the two letter groups. Additionally, this magnet set is nice because it comes with a magnetic dry-erase board and markers to practice writing.

Adding movement to an activity is another fun way to teach your little one their letters. We have a great, free alphabet letter scavenger hunt activity that your kids will love to do! This is an interactive way for your child to interact with the alphabet. They will have fun searching for the “missing” letters and will practice their letter formation skills by tracing each letter on their ABC scavenger hunt recording sheet.
