Fall is my favorite season of the year!

No more flaming summer temps, my birthday is around the corner, and I get to wear my cozy sweatshirts, jeans, and boots again!

Not to mention, Halloween happens in the fall and it’s my favorite holiday 👻!

As I think ahead to this fall I can’t wait to enjoy all the fun activities that my family and I enjoy doing every year.

I hope you’ll try out some (or all!) of these fun fall outdoor activities with your family and make new family traditions!

5 fun outdoor activities to do in the fall with your kids

Fall is a beautiful time of the year, and it’s also a great time for fun! There are so many outdoor activities that you can do with your kids. Here are my top five favorite outdoor activities to do during the fall season:

  1. Go on an outdoor scavenger hunt adventure! Our outdoor fall nature scavenger is the perfect activity if you’re looking to do something that’s free, takes zero preparation, and can be done right outside your door! It’s great for kids to enjoy what the fall season has to offer by exploring their immediate surroundings, and finding cool natural treasures they might not have noticed before!

  1. Visit a pumpkin patch! Our family loves to go to Belvedere Plantation in Fredericksburg, Virginia. They have their yearly Fall Harvest Festival where you can do all sorts of fun things. From pig races to hayrides, this real working farm has it all. And we enjoy picking out pumpkins that we’ll carve and use as Halloween décor. Plus, we like to do their pumpkin challenge. It’s where you pay a flat fee for as many pumpkins you can carry while also taking three steps. My brother-in-law is amazing at this!

  1. Get lost in a corn maze! If you like a sense of mystery, getting lost while exploring your surroundings, and trying to solve puzzles at the same time, then corn mazes are for you! We’re lucky, Belvedere Plantation has an amazing corn maze! But if it didn’t, we would definitely find other places that did. In fact, this year, we might venture out and find other corn mazes to do. I hear there’s a good one at Liberty Mills Farm in Somerset, Virginia.
  1. Go for a hike. We’re so lucky that we get to live next to Shenandoah National Park. It’s a wonderful place to go hiking because it has so many hiking trails to choose from and the scenery is simply breathtaking. Depending on which trail you take, you could encounter wildlife (🐻!), beautiful waterfalls, or stunning panoramic views. Jared, my husband, and his father, Bill, took Lucia hiking a couple of years back while I was at home super pregnant, super uncomfortable, and most likely sleeping. There are so many national parks in the U.S. (423). If you live in the states, Google national parks in your city or state and find ones that are close to you. You won’t regret it!

  1. Get medieval at a Renaissance Festival! A family favorite of ours is to attend a Renaissance Festival, which are usually held in the fall. When we lived in Maryland, our favorite was the Maryland Renaissance Festival-Revel Grove, located in Crownsville, Maryland. Sadly, we haven’t been to one in a long time and we moved! But, there is a Virginia Renaissance Faire in Spotsylvania, Virginia that we’ll try out in the spring.
